What to take

Guidebook

Walking in the mountains is undoubtedly a fantastic form of movement, de-stressing activity, and above all, great pleasure. Before leaving even on the easiest route, remember to take some basic things:

1. Comfortable footwear - Beskids are not the Tatras, but they can often surprise with their difficulty. On the stony paths it's easy to sprain, so shoes should keep our ankle and have the right sole, and protect us from mud and temperature.

2. Appropriate clothing and something on the head - depending on the season we have to adjust our mountain outfit - airy in the summer, in winter protecting against cold and snow, and necessarily a hat on the head! In the summer, protecting against the sun, in winter against cold.

3. Rain jacket - remember that in the mountains the weather can change in a second and even when going out on a sunny and cloudless day, we can expect rain and strong wind.

4. Water - a person should drink at least 1.5 liters of liquids during the day, and even twice as much with exertion. Beskids are mountains with numerous streams in which we can quench our thirst, but a spare bottle in a backpack especially on hot days is essential.

5. Food - the trails in Wisła and the Beskidy abound in places where you can eat, but in our backpack there should be at least 1 sandwich for every 3h of the road and something sweet, which will give us energy quickly. On some routes, due to their location, we will not meet any store or place to eat.

6. Map - this is one of the most important if not the most important thing in the backpack, even going on the easiest and shortest route, it may not seem to us that we will use the memory while watching the map only before leaving. On the trail it often happens that we have to verify the route or even change it or check the distance. In many places there is still a lack of appropriate markings and the map will be necessary in this case.

7. Charged mobile phone, a knife and a flashlight - we should always have the phone with us going to places far away from the buildings, not only to call for help if necessary, but to inform someone who is waiting for us at home about where we are. Knife and flashlight are useful only in emergency situations, which, however, happen especially in late autumn or winter when the day is very short.

8. Identity card and money - in many places in the Beskids we cross or go along the border with the Czech Republic or Slovakia. In such a zone we can be checked, and about the suitability of money wherever we go or do not need to mention :)

9. First Aid Kit - plasters, bandages and hydrogen peroxide do not weigh much, and can save health and life not only for us, but perhaps for other tourists in need.

10. Smile and "Good Morning" - greeting on the trail of other tourists encountered is a generally known principle, the usual 'Hi' or 'Good Morning' is a hallmark of mountain tourism Savoir Viver and a longtime custom.
